Trueears is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
Information We Collect
1. Audio Data (Microphone)
What we collect: When you use the dictation feature, the App captures audio from your microphone.
How we use it: Audio is processed in-memory and (when enabled) sent to third-party speech-to-text services for transcription.
Storage: Audio is NOT stored on your device or our servers. It is processed in real-time and immediately discarded after transcription.
2. Clipboard Content
What we collect: When you use the "select-to-transform" feature, the App reads text from your clipboard.
How we use it: The selected text is sent to AI services for transformation as you request.
Storage: Clipboard content is NOT stored. It is read only when you initiate the feature and discarded after processing.
3. Active Window Information
What we collect: The App detects which application window is currently active to provide context-aware features.
How we use it: This helps the App paste transcribed text into the correct application.
Storage: Active window information is temporarily cached during your session and not persisted.
4. Installed Applications
What we collect: The App scans for installed applications to enable app-specific features and profiles.
How we use it: This information helps customize the transcription experience for different applications.
Storage: Application information is cached locally on your device only.
5. API Keys
What you provide: You provide your own API keys for speech-to-text and AI services.
How we store them: API keys are stored locally on your device using secure storage mechanisms. They are NEVER transmitted to our servers.
Third-Party Services
Your audio and text data may be sent to the following third-party services:
- Groq: For speech-to-text transcription
- Other LLM providers: For text transformation features (if configured)
Please review the privacy policies of these services, as they have their own data handling practices.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do NOT collect personal identification information
- We do NOT collect usage analytics or telemetry
- We do NOT store your audio recordings
- We do NOT have access to your API keys
- We do NOT track your transcription history
Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures:
- API keys are stored using Tauri's secure storage plugin
- No data is transmitted to our servers
- All processing happens locally or through encrypted connections to third-party services
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Review what data the App stores locally
- Delete: Uninstall the App to remove all local data
- Control: Choose whether to use features that access your microphone or clipboard
Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes that affect how we handle your data will require you to re-accept the updated policy.
Offline Use
The consent and privacy features work entirely offline. Legal documents are bundled with the App and do not require an internet connection to view.
